Peter Friedmann, The Club Chairman, hosted an open vets
tournament at the club on Sunday October 23rd. Mens and
ladies pairs came from a wide area including the Hampshire Club,
New Milton, East Dorset and further afield.
The purpose of the tournament was firstly to give people a day
of enjoyable and competitive tennis playing people they would not
usually encounter. Secondly, the tournament aimed to raise
some money for Tennis First - the Tennis Charity that adds support
to our very best youngsters such as Liam Broady and Ollie Golding
who are on the edge of breaking into the men's tour and will be the
successors to Andy Murray.
The final was won by our own Bob Battersby and Nigel Espley, who
defeated John Wilson and Chris Mitchell from the Hampshire
Club. All those who did not enter missed a really good
day.
