This continues our ongoing investment in the fitness centre and follows the installation of new equipment over the past 4 years

2008-9 new rowers and free weights
2006-7 new resistance equipment

0 Comments- Add comment Written on 30-Jun-2010 by wtscOur annual open tennis tournament, sponsored by SLAZENGER, takes place on the week of 11-18th July. Due to the construction work for the indoor courts and the resulting reduction in courts, the tournament is reduced in size this year.
However it will still be a high quality event attracting top players from around the UK. Events this year are
Mens & Ladies Open Singles 32 draw men start Monday Ladies start Tuesday
Boys & Girls 18&U 48 draw starts Monday
Boys & Girls 16&U 32 draw starts Monday
Boys & Girls 14&U 24 draw starts Thursday
Mens & Ladies Open Doubles starts Wednesday
As usual, all of the courts are reserved for the tournament throughout the week, (Monday 11th to Saturday 17th - there is also a red ball event on the Sunday 18th but this will not use all courts)
But we would like to see members come down and enjoy watching some great tennis. There will be a number of club juniors taking part in the tournament so come along and give them your support.

We are able to offer most tennis and squash rackets at internet matched prices including…Wilson, Head, Prince, Babolat, Yonnex and will also stock K Swiss shoes plus a bigger range of accessories / balls/grips etc.
A shoe display cabinet is installed just at the entrance to the café bar and another cabinet with rackets & accessories is placed in reception.
We also have access to a range of tester rackets so members are able to try before they buy.
We also have a catalogue available to browse and order from a wider range of goods such as kit bags.
We carry a stock of shoes, grips and some popular rackets but other items will be only a few days delivery. ....and deliveries come to the Club so need to be at home waiting for the courier with the new racket or pair of shoes to arrive...we will just call/email you when it arrives here!

Chris Davies
Outgoing Chairman, Chris Davies was thanked by all for his contribution to the club over the the term of his three years as Chair and Peter Friedmann was welcomed as new Club Chairman. Chris will remain on the management committee and will continue to help with the indoor court project which he has been closely involved in since taking over as Chair in 2007.

Peter will also retain his tennis chairman position for the time being having just taken on that role in 2009.

Helen Lane has also joined the management committee having been recently elected as the squash section chairman, Helen has been a member for a number of years and has previously served on the management committee.

Another member newly elected to the Management Committee was Pete Sly. Pete is a long time member of the club and has been Club tennis captain for a number of years.
The proposed motion regarding changes to the Club rules that would give more formal recognition to the Bridge section were also passed unopposed.

The 24 HOUR GYM CHALLENGE is this Friday 14th May 2010, we have 40 members taking part, plus loads of helpers to make this challenge a success.
You can do your bit for charity by sponsoring the club members in raising as much money as possible for the British Heart Foundation.
